KPI Selection Practical Industry
"If you can plot it and monitor it regularly, that’s already a KPI. It doesn’t have to be complicated, as long as it’s a number that helps you track or improve something, it counts."
This was one of the key lessons I shared with diploma students during our recent session. I designed two demo dashboards, one focusing on OEE (Overall Equipment Effectiveness) and another covering Manufacturing KPIs including Defect Rate, First Pass Yield, Rework Rate, Planned vs Unplanned Maintenance Ratio, Safety Accident/Incidents, and Near Miss Frequency.
These practical dashboards helped students understand that KPI selection shall align not only with job roles and procedures, but also with company policies and strategic business direction. When KPIs are chosen with clear intent and context, they become more than just numbers, they become part of continual improvement
