Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE)

Recently completed a teaching session with diploma-level students on Total Productive Maintenance (TPM), where we introduced Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) as a key performance metric.

We covered the three main components:
✅ Availability –  includes downtime due to breakdowns, setup, and maintenance
⚙️ Performance – speed losses and minor stops
🎯 Quality – defects, rework, and scrap

Students learned how even a “busy” machine can hide inefficiencies.
OEE helps identify improvement opportunities without the need for additional equipment.

Using real-world examples and visual dashboards, they gained practical insight into tracking and improving shop floor performance.
